The Kings XI Punjab has been one of the most disappointing teams in the IPL auction in the past three years. It has released many good players and made many bad purchases for heavy prices. Once again KXIP has the biggest purse going into this IPL auction. With Rs. 53.20 crores in their purse, it will surely go for some big names. Let’s see who KXIP can try to buy for the upcoming IPL 2021:
1. Mitchell Starc
Mitchell Starc was incredible when he played for the Royal Challengers in 2014 and 2015 IPL. After that, he missed the next two IPLs for RCB and then he was released by the RCB management ahead of 2018 auction. He was then picked by KKR in 2018 for 9 crores but got injured for the whole season.

Since then, Starc hasn’t even enrolled for the IPL auctions as he wanted to focus on international commitments. Purchasing Starc could be a risky option given his injury issues. But everyone knows his ability to bowl yorkers at the death! An option KXIP could try out.
2. Steve Smith
Another star player in this list. KXIP needs someone like Smith to balance out the aggression at the top of the order. It’s surprising that RR has released Smith, but it has given KXIP a huge void to fill. Now with Smith, they could promote him to number 3 and put the two big hitters Pooran and Gayle in the next two slots.

Although he has been out of form off late, Smith is a class player who would come back with plenty of runs. It would be a steal for Punjab if they buy him less than 10 crores. So, Smith would be an outstanding buy for the Punjab franchise.
3. Kyle Jamieson
He could be a risky option considering he hasn’t played much of T20s in his career. However, if it pays off, KXIP could potentially win their first trophy. Jamieson has the ability to swing the ball both ways at the start of the innings. And he could also be used at the death as an X factor. 4. Kedar Jadhav
Did you think he would be in this list? I guess most of you wouldn’t. However, Kedar Jadhav will be an outstanding pick if KXIP tries to consider him in the auctions. He wasn’t batting in his desired position in the CSK team, and he needed to bat at number 5 at least to establish his authority.Embed from Getty Images
If you observed the recent SMAT Trophy, Jadhav smashed 84* off 45… This was the same guy who got beaten up by the fans in general during IPL 2020. He also scored some handy knocks with the bat throughout the tournament. He was one of the main reasons why Maharashtra did well in the tournament. But with that being said, will KXIP consider him as a target in this auction? Let’s wait and see…
5. Alex Carey
KXIP needs a full-time wicket keeper in their team. So Alex Carey is the guy to go to. Off late he has been in outstanding form in the Big Bash scoring a lot of runs and a century too. He almost single handedly guided the Adelaide Strikers into the playoffs after Rashid Khan’s departure. The perfect man at the number 6 slot where KXIP are trying to fit in some players. If Punjab buy him, I reckon it would be one of the best picks of the season.Embed from Getty Images
