Rajasthan Royals was the side that surpassed all the expectations and won the inaugural season of IPL in 2008. Since then, the Royals have never made it to the finals of any IPL season! Last year, they had finished at the bottom of the table after losing by a huge margin to the Knight Riders. Rajasthan have really been a shadow of what they were in the last two seasons. Now let’s look what’s in the tank for this year?
Squad: Sanju Samson (c, wk), Andrew Tye, Anuj Rawat, Ben Stokes, David Miller, Jaydev Unadkat, Jofra Archer, Jos Buttler, Kartik Tyagi, Mahipal Lomror, Manan Vohra, Mayank Markande, Rahul Tewatia, Riyan Parag, Shreyas Gopal, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shivam Dube, Chris Morris, Mustafizur Rahman, Chetan Sakariya, KC Cariappa, Liam Livingstone, Kuldip Yadav, Akash Singh

The Rajasthan Royals’ think tank have brought themselves some new youngsters as they do in their previous years. Apart from that, they have brought in Mustafizur Rahman, a new pacer they have been looking for. His deadly off cutters and yorkers could cut the way for the Royals to victory. But it’s not the Fizz, who is their biggest signing. It’s actually Chris Morris!!! The South African all-rounder was bought for a whopping 16.25 crores making him the highest paid player in the IPL auctions of this season.
1. Immense Depth of All Rounders
Rajasthan has a plethora of all-rounders in the team. Right from Ben Stokes to Chris Morris to Rahul Tewatia, each one of them are equally good match winners. It is widely believed that having a lot of all rounders wins you T20 games. Well, Rajasthan have definitely qualified in this aspect having two of the best all rounders in the world and having Rahul Tewatia to finish off games and bowl some spin. Looks like a goldmine full of all rounders.
Rajasthan Royals has the luxury to accelerate through the middle overs too. In the previous year, Rajasthan was extremely explosive right through the middle overs. This team had managed to chase 196 in Abu Dhabi against probably the best bowling attack in the IPL with the help of Stokes and Samson. Added to that, they also had chased down the highest score ever in IPL history against the Kings XI Punjab. With Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Shivam Dube and Rahul Tewatia, RR surely has the firepower in their batting order.
3. Game Changers
This is a thing that many teams try to bargain in the shortest format and RR has got a lot of them in the team. Ben Stokes, Jos Butler, Rahul Tewatia, and Sanju Samson- being the 4 players in this team that could change the game from nowhere.
1. Pace department
The pace department of the Royals looks extremely fragile. With Archer ruled out of IPL, it’s Chris Morris alone who has to lead this department. In the previous year, Jaydev Unadkat was really expensive and also, Kartik Tyagi, though impressive was really expensive. It was practically Archer saving RR from the jaws of defeat. This season, they have the deadly Mustafizur Rahman. But however, he also is quite unpredictable when it comes to the Indian Premier League.
2. Spin department
This is another department where Rajasthan is not really good. Playing a lot of its matches at Chepauk, RR definitely needs some new quality spinners. Shreyas Gopal looked woeful last year while Rahul Tewatia was great in certain matches but inconsistent in others. Overall, the spin department is not bad but definitely has inconsistency!
X Factor Player
The X Factor player for Rajasthan is most definitely Benjamin Andrew Stokes. He opens the batting, bowls a couple of overs and takes some insane catches. Although his batting is highly spoken about, he mostly takes the crucial wickets for his team. RR has a three dimensional player in their team, and he could end up as one of the best players in the tournament. Having the extra pressure of opening the batting and bowling a couple of overs, Stokesy most definitely would cherish the amount of workload on him.
