IPL 2020 is proving to be one of the most competitive seasons of all and this match was a perfect testimony to that. Talking Points From The Match

Shubman Gill in red hot form:

It is now the second match in a row when the talented youngster, Shubman Gill has stepped up when needed. He has sent a strong message to the Indian selectors on what they are missing on.

While wickets were falling on the other side, he continued to play solidly. He built the inning slowly and his knock of 47(34) was crucial for KKR. He missed out on a half-century, but considering his red hot form, I am sure that many half-centuries are yet to come!

KKR Young Guns- Shivam Mavi and Nagarkoti:

Before the start of the IPL, people were quite sceptical about KKR’s bowling department. They had a paucity of quality Indian fast bowlers. Fast forward to now, it is safe to say that they have solved that brilliantly.

One of the standout performers for them has been the 21-year-old, Shivam Mavi. He is currently the only KKR bowler in the list of top-10 wicket-takers this season. What’s even more impressive is that he has a mind-blowing economy of just 6.70, a bowling average of 16.75, and a bowling SR of 15.00. He has been very effective and it certainly looks like KKR now no longer lacks a quality Indian pace bowler.

Shivam Mavi has got good support from Nagarkoti too. Nagarkoti has a decent economy of 7.50 and he is only going to get better with time. It is super impressive the way the two youngsters have performed this season.

Curious Case of Robin Uthappa:

When RR bought Uthappa for 3 crores, it was expected that his experience and solidity would benefit them but it hasn’t been the case till now.

Uthappa has failed to perform whatsoever. In the 3 matches he has played, he has scored a combined of just 9 runs. He has been the weak link for RR because his bad form means that RR have to be over reliant on Smith and Samson.

One question to be asked is that if RR wants to play Uthappa then shouldn’t he be played as an opener? Uthappa was a very good opener for KKR and playing him at the middle order means you are wasting the resources you have. Playing Uthappa as an opener means that Smith can play at his preferred number 3 slot too.

Consolation Prize- Tom Curran:

When Tom Curran came, the score was 42/5 and RR had all but lost the match. Yet the way Tom Curran played was commendable.

While wickets started to fall on one side like a deck of cards, he maintained his composure and tried his best to stay till the very end. Although he couldn’t win the match for them, his inning was a positive sign for RR that they can rely on Tom Curran as a finisher in the future.

Tom Curran remained unbeaten with a knock of 54*(36) and he would be looking to finish the game next time he plays.

Questions to answer:-

  • Should KKR bring Sunil Narine down the order and play a specialist opener instead?
  • Should Robin Uthappa be dropped or should he be played as an opener?
  • Should Ankit Rajpoot be dropped?

IPL 2020 is proving to be one of the best seasons of all due to the intense competition we have witnessed till now. Who will come out on top and who will dissapoint? Stay tuned!
