India vs Australia has been always an exciting contest, irrespective of what format they’re playing, and in which country they’re playing.
The ODI series of India tour of Australia is underway now, and there are some interesting battles and competitions, which could attract the eyes of the viewers.
1) Virat Kohli VS Adam Zampa
Virat, in recent times, has been dominated by his fellow RCB teammate Adam Zampa. Virat didn’t have a dominating outing this IPL, he scored runs in plenty but he couldn’t score runs with a good strike-rate as such.
This IPL, Virat scored 466 runs at an average of 42 with a strike-rate of just 121. Though his teammate Zampa didn’t get enough opportunities in IPL 2020 but he had a significant role in RCB reaching the playoffs due to their NRR in their last league stage match.Embed from Getty Images
Against Zampa in ODIs, Virat has played 148 balls and scored 174 runs and Zampa has dismissed Virat as many as 5 times. No other spinner has ever dismissed Virat 5 times in ODIs.
Against Zampa, Virat averages 35 and has a strike-rate of 118. This high strike-rate tells that Virat doesn’t actually ‘struggle’ against leg spinners. Against leg spinners in ODIs, Virat averages over 60 with a strike-rate of close to 110.
Zampa has also dominated Virat in T20Is, dismissing him 2 times in just 5 innings.
2. Shikhar Dhawan VS Mitchell Starc
With Rohit Sharma’s unavailability in the series, and KL Rahul’s newfound role in the middle order, the onus of giving a good start to the team as an opener highly relies on Shikhar Dhawan. He also had a terrific IPL this year when he scored consecutive centuries too.

But the Aussie spearhead Mitchell Starc has troubled him many of the times and it would be exciting to see the battle of Shikhar Dhawan facing Mitchell Starc. And it’s also interesting to know that when Shikhar last faced Australia, he scored a mindblowing century with 117 runs in just 109 balls.
Dhawan has faced 69 balls against Starc in ODIs and has scored 52 runs and has been dismissed 3 times in 8 innings. Dhawan averages 17.33 with a SR of 75.36 against Starc in ODIs.
3. Marcus Stoinis VS Jasprit Bumrah
Stoinis had a memorable IPL 2020, and he was the only player this IPL to score 350+ runs as well as pick 10+ wickets. Bumrah was exceptional as always.
Bumrah picked 27 wickets in IPL 2020, averaging 15 runs per wicket with an economy of 6.73. This IPL season of Bumrah has been the best for him in terms of wickets, as well as bowling average and strike-rate.Embed from Getty Images
And so this battle would also be one of the battles to look out for especially in the death overs. In the IPL, Stoinis faced Bumrah in 2 innings, and Bumrah dismissed him both the times, scoring only 6 runs in 10 balls.
In ODIs, though Bumrah has just played one ODI in Australia, that too in 2016.
4. Glenn Maxwell vs Yuzvendra Chahal
Though Maxwell didn’t have a good IPL, in International cricket, he’s altogether a different player. Chahal had a good IPL, giving important breakthroughs at crucial moments for the RCB.

Chahal vs Maxwell has been an exciting contest irrespective of what format of cricket they’re playing.
Against Chahal in ODIs, Maxwell has been able to score 40 runs in 31 balls, and has been dismissed by Chahal 4 times in 6 innings.
When India last toured to Australia, Chahal recorded his best figures of 6/42 in ODIs. Indian team fans will hope that Chahal replicates such performances.
