5 Players RCB can Purchase in IPL 2021 Auctions

RCB is a team which often goes for big names in the IPL auctions. RCB in the past decade has been trying to fix its death bowling but has failed to do so. And the lack of great death bowlers in the side has been bothering the team for a long time now. In IPL 2020, RCB also picked Chris Morris for 10 crores to solve the death bowling issues. But he hasn’t been impactful enough. Also, their middle-order was the biggest let down in the previous season.

So, here are the 5 players they can try out in the IPL auction of 2021:

1. Mitchell Starc

Mitchell Starc was incredible when he played for the Royal Challengers in 2014 and 2015 IPL. He reasonably solved their death bowling issues during those years. After that, he missed the next two IPLs for RCB and then he was released by the RCB management ahead of 2018 auction.

No Contract Currently, But Mitchell Starc Could 'Consider' Playing IPL if Held in October

He was then picked by KKR in 2018 for 9 crores but got injured for the whole season. Since then, Starc hasn’t even enrolled for the IPL auctions as he wanted to focus on international commitments. Purchasing Starc could be a risky option given his injury issues. But everyone knows his ability to bowl yorkers at the death!!! An option RCB could try out.

2. Dawid Malan

Dawid Malan stands first in the T20I rankings and he’s a batsman who could resolve RCB’s problems at the middle-order. Apart from his sensational consistency in the shortest format of the game, his strike-rate too is just phenomenal. He is someone who could repair the innings once there is a collapse. The aggression which was lacking for most of the tournament in the middle overs by RCB could be handled by Malan.

Although Malan bats in the 3rd position, he is a class player who can be flexible at any position. Also, he could be a possible opener at the top of the order. With AB, Virat and Malan, RCB’s scores could be 200+ on most occasions. However, he could go for big bucks in the auction considering he is the world top T20 batsman currently. Overall, a wise pick for the Challengers.

3. Carlos Brathwaite

Carlos Brathwaite! Remember the name”. This guy could be an exceptional buy for the RCB team given the fact that Dube was released from the RCB team and you need a guy who will take the bowlers to the cleaners. RCB has been looking for that firepower which was lacking in the previous season.

Also, he could bowl a couple of overs when the bowlers are being taken for a ride at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. He also has been sensational for the Sixers in this season and though inconsistent, he could easily score quickfire 20-25 runs at the death overs. He has played 4 seasons of IPL playing only 16 matches overall, but who knows, this could be his season.

4. Ben McDermott

If not for Dawid Malan, RCB could definitely try this player. He was really outstanding in the Big Bash a couple of days ago. He almost single-handedly guided the Hobart Hurricanes over the line in a tricky run chase against Sydney Thunder.

McDermott is also in contention for Australia’s squad in all formats of the game. He has been in good shape in the past few months having scored a fantastic century against India A before the India- Australia series. He is a very similar player to AB de Villiers having a 360° game around him. Overall, a decent pick for RCB if they don’t buy Dawid Malan.

5. Mohammad Azharuddeen

The youngster Mohammad Azharuddeen who smashed 137 runs off just 54 balls could be a great option to consider for the Challengers. After this outstanding innings, he could go for big bucks in the IPL auction. Although he hasn’t hit big scores post that innings, his ability to score quickly will be in demand.

With 35 crores in their wallet, RCB could well and truly buy him comfortably. Given that Aaron Finch has been released by the Challengers, Azharuddeen could find a place in the playing XI if they don’t pick Josh Philippe. He is surely a player RCB could look out for in the IPL auction.

As the trade and transfer window of the IPL closes all the focus will be on the auctions and these are the few players RCB could consider buying in the auction. What are your thoughts on the players chosen? Put it in the comments below.
